Through a choreographed movement sequence set to music, participants will explore the joy of movement following safety principles when engaging with the elderly.

The workshop will be a short movement sequence using daily objects as tools for mobility, proprioception, and overall wellness. Movements are choreographed to music following safety principles when engaging with seniors.

Workshops on working with seniors in the 4th Age:

  • Rethinking the use of Tools and Materials for Seniors with Dementia

By Dr. Felicia Low

Due to participant limitations, we need to reconsider how tools and materials can be adapted to create works of art. This workshop will take participants through a process of contour drawing of an orchid. The drawing will then be transferred onto a foam board to create a print block using simple tools. A finished artwork will made with the orchid foam print blocks. Reasons for adapting the tools and materials for persons with dementia will be explained throughout the process.

  • Memories through Memorabilia

By Peggy Ferroa

Seniors face a delicate balance between looking after their immediate needs and memory preservation. Many focus on holding on to specific memories while letting go of less significant ones. But what happens when your memory fails you? Peggy Ferroa looks at how well-chosen memorabilia and thoughtful facilitation can unlock conversations and help engage in conversation and telling personal stories.

  • daSH (dance science and health) for Seniors

By Denise Leong

Our Dance Science and Health (daSH) programmes are designed to promote overall health and social determinants of health for people across different backgrounds and demographics. In this workshop, we will be diving into community dance practices and principles in the context of seniors through an experiential session. Explore your role as a community dance facilitator as we move through a typical daSH class!
